How contracting works
Contracting is becoming a popular employment option for job seekers wanting a more varied and flexible employment solution. Working on contract means that you are paid only for the hours that you work. You are usually paid a higher hourly rate compared to a permanent role.

How this works is that the Integris Group employs you and then contracts you back to the client. We manage your super, tax, payroll, workers compensation, public liability and professional indemnity. It’s worthwhile to note that in Brisbane, a large proportion of contract employment opportunities are with the state government, and the contract market can still tend to be a bit cyclic.

Please note that under contract, you are not entitled to payment for public holidays, annual leave, sick leave, compassionate leave, or parental leave. There are no benefits that are accumulated or paid out upon termination of the employment contract.

What skill level do I need?
This depends entirely on the job, but most of our contracting opportunities are with state or local government and at levels from AO3 to AO6 ($40k to 64k plus super).  Because you have to hit the ground running, you will need a minimum of 18mths exp (that’s at an AO3 level), ideally with previous experience working in government at that level. If in doubt, or if you’ve seen a particular role advertised that you’d like to talk about then Contact Us.

Can you provide me with consistent contract work?
Although we do our very best to get as much work for contractors as possible, due to market fluctuations we can’t guarantee the amount of work we can give you. We find the quieter times are usually Dec/Jan and July/Aug. That’s why it’s best to plan ahead financially if you are considering contacting as a career choice.

Pay Periods and Payment
The pay week is from Monday morning to Sunday evening. To ensure that you are being paid correctly and for the payroll to be processed we must receive your completed and signed timesheet by 10am Monday. Timesheets can be faxed through to 07 3210 7473.
Pay periods are fortnightly and providing we have received your timesheet complete and on time your pay will be direct deposited into your nominated bank account where possible on the following Thursday. If Monday is a public holiday, payroll is processed on Friday. Click here to print a copy of the Banking Details Form.

Time Sheets
On completion of your timesheet, please photocopy the original and have the client sign both copies. One copy is to remain with the client and the other copy to be faxed to us. A separate timesheet is required for each assignment and for each pay week or part thereof. Timesheets must be completed in full, displaying hours for each day (deducting lunch breaks), and specifying total hours for the week. Click here to print a copy of a timesheet.

What happens if I don’t get my timesheet in on time?
Your timesheet is an important legal document. It’s the basis for our invoicing process, and if we can’t legally invoice our clients, we can’t pay you. Please make sure it’s correctly completed, signed by our client (your manager) and returned to us by 10am Monday following the week you worked. If you’re at all uncertain as to whether it got through, please contact us. If you have not got the timesheet through on time, it may mean that you pay does not go in until the following pay cycle.

Tax Declaration Form and Tax File Number
It is essential that you return your form as soon as possible. We assume that you have a tax file number for up to 28 days, if we have not received your tax file number within 28 days we will automatically deduct 48.25c in the dollar as directed by the Australian Taxation Office.

Probation
The confirmation of your ongoing contract is subject to successful completion of an agreed probation period (usually one to two weeks) commencing on the first day of your employment. During this period, the employer may terminate your probationary employment with the giving of the notice period indicated in your contract.

Hours
Hours will vary depending on the nature of the client's business or needs. Usually a standard working week is between 36.25hrs and 40hrs from 8.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday. In most cases they will be the normal hours of the client's office. We will be notified of the hours prior to accepting the contract position.

Dress Standards
You are required to dress in a professional and neat manner during business hours, and after hours when representing the employer at meetings or functions.

Confidential Information
Much of the work conducted whilst on contract is of a confidential nature. Consequently, you may not divulge or use, either for your own benefit or that of others, any confidential information acquired during your contract. Confidential information refers to any information (written or oral) that is not publicly available unless such information became public domain by unauthorised disclosure. This obligation extends beyond the period you are contracted to the client.

Permanent Placement
Many contractors are offered permanent positions with the organisation to which you have been contracted whilst on assignment. You are free to accept if you wish to, however we do ask that you notify us immediately.

Superannuation
Superannuation funds will be paid if your ordinary time monthly earnings are in excess of $450.00. Our super funds are with SunSuper, however you are now free to choose what super fund you wish to use. For further information contact us.

Your Obligations, Warranties and Indemnities
To ensure that you comply at all times to Workplace Health and Safety.
To advise us promptly if you have any concerns about your contract.
To indemnify us in relation to any claim against us arising out of your breach of the above obligations.
To notify The Integris Group immediately if you have accepted a permanent position with the client

Statement of Service
The Integris Group will upon request, provide by the contractor whose employment has terminated, a written statement specifying her/his period of employment and classification or type of work performed by the contractor. The employer is under no obligation to provide either a written or verbal reference for the contractor.

Termination:
The client, the candidate, or The Integris Group can terminate the assignment on giving prior notice after the probationary period as indicated in your contract.  At any time, the employer may terminate the employment of the contractor if the contractor engages in serious misconduct or otherwise acts in a manner that would justify summary dismissal at common law. For further information, refer to your contract or contact us.
